About Me

Welcome to My Educational Journey: Embracing Internationalism and a Supporting Diverse Student body

Hello, and welcome to my homepage! My name is Lyndsey and I am passionate about creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. My professional journey in education has been a unique blend of developing my own educational qualifications while honing my teaching skills through various part-time roles.
A Diverse Teaching Background
I began my career teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) in schools and colleges. Over time, I expanded my expertise to teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in higher education. This progression has provided me with a rich understanding of the diverse needs of students from different backgrounds and educational experiences.
Commitment to Postgraduate Education
As a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant, I have had the privilege of forging meaningful relationships with Master's students and developing amazing connections with fellow PhD students across the wider university. My work with the PAFs (Postgraduate Researchers and Families) group, which supports student parents, has been particularly rewarding. This group has grown into a thriving community, providing essential support and fostering a sense of belonging for postgraduate researchers with families.
Passion for Internationalism and Inclusivity
One of my core passions is embracing internationalism. By celebrating the diverse cultures and backgrounds of our student body, I strive to create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. This commitment to internationalism is reflected in my teaching and mentoring practices, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, receive the support they need to succeed.
Ongoing Research and Professional Development
Alongside my teaching roles, I am actively engaged in research towards a PhD in Education, focusing on Distance Higher Education and student experience. My research explores the unique challenges and opportunities within this field, aiming to improve the experiences of distance learners. Additionally, I am working on several small projects for publication on PGR student parent and PTA experiences, and have presented my findings at academic conferences.
Achievements and Impact
Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering a sense of community and support for all students. My efforts have been recognised with awards from the Student Guild and university peer mentoring office, underscoring the positive impact of my work. Whether through organising inclusive events, providing personalised mentorship, or advocating for student needs, I am dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those I work with.
Thank you for visiting my homepage. I invite you to explore my work, learn more about my journey, and join me in embracing a vision of inclusive and supportive education for all.
